Friends

Tabitha gave me this for my birthday.  I love getting birthday presents four months after the fact.  It's like a never-ending celebration.  :)

I love my friends.  They have been here for me this morning, as I am trying to ward off panic attacks about my trip to San Diego.  I didn't realize how nervous I was about going and feeling like the new kid on the block who doesn't know squat and has no right to be in attendance.  Not having my laundry done yet or having started packing probably doesn't help my level of anxiety about being ill-prepared for this, either.

I wanted to share a few of their comments, as they are good reminders for us all when questioning our abilities or worried about how we will fit in.  But mostly so I have a reference point to come back to later when the conversations have long since disappeared from my instant messenger windows or scrabble sidebars.  Or when I look back after this weekend and see my fears were completely unwarranted.

Pssbbbbt!  If everyone in the class knew everything, they wouldn't be there.  You have just as much right as anyone else.  It will be a great experience and you will learn lots and grow so much!  But...you may be the only midget, so just go ahead and accept that one (ok, this probably doesn't apply to everyone).

Don't be nervous, you are going to do great.  You're moving towards your goal.  Everyone starts out where you are!

You have the important part, the instinctual ability to take great pictures (I still feel like such a beginner at times, but this is so nice to hear!).  Turning it into a way to make money is a totally different skill set and I would think most people would need to get those tools from somewhere else.  This will just jump you ahead by quite a bit.  I bet a good number of people there will have the same fears as you (Lord, I hope I'm not alone!).

it's a good thing only the youngling is home to hear me snorting ;)

you will look back on this post next week and realize how unnecessary all of this anxiety was. and you'll have some awesome new skills to practice :D

I completely agree with Tabitha (including the snorting) ... I am hoping you revisit this page after your class and post yourself... about how WONDERFUL it was and how you DONT KNOW WHY you were so anxious! :o)

LOVE your work - beads AND photog!!!

I so agree that people who take classes don't go in knowing everything. You have a very intuitive and natural gift for photography. The class just adds some skills to an already great tool box. Enjoy yourself!

Yup - classes are for enrichment and learning. I wish I were going with you so we could be the 5'-ers there together… then you wouldn't be alone in that. Although, we've got a great angle from down here! Maybe that's why your pictures are SO good already…
You'll do fine. And remember - ask questions if you don't understand. Chances are you aren't the only one!

I'm excited for you to be taking this next step in your creative life, and jealous too! I always think of all the cool things I'm going to know afterward that I don't know now...you'll gobble it up!! They'll love you! (But it sounds like if you all get locked in a dungeon you'll be the one that will get drafted to crawl through the air ducts to get help).

I know the anxiety angle, I get the same way before embarking on something new. But I bet that you'll be showing them a thing or two you have figured out on your own! Your pics are already fabulous.
Safe travels! Can't wait to see how things go!

OH Kelley, I so know how you're feeling. I'm actually feeling that way about this online class we're in. I think some of it has to do with missing the second week, I got behind and can't seem to jump all the way back in. I am so excited for you and can't wait to hear how it goes, it's going to be so amazing!! You ROCK!!!

I Just HAD to Share This!
